This webinar will describe how end-of-life doulas (EOLDs), as trained nonmedical professionals, offer knowledgeable, compassionate, bespoke support to individuals and their circles of care as they confront and navigate mortality and loss, at any stage of life or health. EOLDs advocate for patient agency, autonomy, and selfdetermination, supplying relational, emotional, spiritual, logistical, and practical care with an approach that centers preparedness, dignity, and choice as well as complements, augments, and maintains a steady stream of holistic care.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Distinguish the role of an end-of-life doula as distinct from but complementary to medical providers, behavioral and/or mental health counselors, pastoral-care specialists, legal and financial professionals, funeral directors, and/or other licensed/credentialed roles often involved in end-of-life care and discussions.
  2. Apply an inclusive, collaborative lens to patient care that grounds interventions and conversations in whole-person dynamics, understanding how EOLDs may help to contextualize and integrate medical and other support into the patient’s daily life.
  3. Recognize how EOLD support may improve patient readiness and quality of life, continue provider recommendations outside of clinical visits, and enhance the depth, efficiency, and connectedness of provider-patient relationships.
